At St. Croix Festival Theatre

Inspiration envelopes the arts and Festival Theatre is no exception

The New Doors program, with its debut in 2005, was created to include an eclectic variety of high quality performing arts events that don’t fit neatly into our Theatre or Music series.

This program was conceptualized as a way to present new works, new artists, established artists with new works, and established artists who are new to our audience, all the while prioritizing the presentation of artists who live or hail from the St. Croix Valley.

Artists from Wisconsin and Minnesota counties bordering the St. Croix River hold priority, but the invitation extends to those beyond the Valley when the opportunity seems right.

If you are such an artist, or know of someone who is and you have interest in a presentation at Festival Theatre, we’d like to hear from you. Inspirations for New Doors programming can be sent to info@festivaltheatre.org or simply pick up the phone and call 715-483-3387

Unexpected Company

Unexpected Company
A New Doors Concert
Thursday, September 23rd, 7:30 pm

Unexpected Company was formed over 25 years ago when a group of about 15 singers in the Chisago Lakes area wanted to experience the joy of singing together and sharing their talents and work with the community.

Through the years the group flourished and performed a wide variety of music at numerous venues. Over time its membership grew as well as the quality of the performances. Dave Seaburg is the Director and has a unique talent for choosing a theme for each concert with appropriate music selections to entertain audiences and challenge the singers.

Music selections range from standard classics, folk, pop, or show tunes, and members may also perform in solo, ensemble or instrumental numbers.

Tickets: $10

2010 New Doors Past Performances

Brian Wicklund & the FiddlePals
Saturday, April 17th, 7:30 pm

We are pleased to welcome songwriter, teacher, and award-winning musician Brian Wicklund to our new street-level stage. A fiddling “jack-of-all-trades,” Brian has been performing for over thirty years. In 2005 Brian and two friends formed the acoustic power trio Brother Mule.

Their debut release “Big Twang” won them an Indie Music Award for Best Americana CD of 2005, and is a showcase of original and traditional vocals and instrumentals spanning genres of swing, old time, Celtic, old country and acoustic funk. Brian performs locally with a band he fronts called Brian Wicklund and the FiddlePals, who share his passion for musical artistry.

Tickets $12.50

Danny Schmidt
Friday, August 20th, 8:00 pm ~ Club Level Space

Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter Danny Schmidt is a writer's writer, with a lyrical depth drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, and Dave Carter. Upon winning the prestigious Kerrville New Folk award in 2007,Sing Out Magazine tagged Schmidt "the best new songwriter we've heard in 15 years."

Just one man sitting alone on stage with his acoustic guitar and his poetry, in the timeless troubadour tradition, his musical influences draw from deeply-rooted Appalachian mountain gospel to haunted English balladry, from syncopated Piedmont country blues to vagabond 60’s protest folk-stumpery.

But it all boils down to just great songwriting, in a singular style all his own. Not to be missed.

Tickets: $12.50

Festival Arts
Arts learning through arts making.

We believe learning through the arts develops individuals that are team players, innovative thinkers, multi-versed interpreters, and compassionate, tolerant members of society.

Socially, intellectually, creatively, and emotionally, individuals who experience the arts on a regular basis are better equipped to meet the challenges of our changing world…

And it’s also a whole bunch of FUN!

We use process-based activities and focused, quality arts instruction to teach new skills and build on established ones.

A multi-disciplinary program brings a unique meshing of environmental themes and character education through group arts making activities.

Visual art, theatre, literary arts, music, and movement activities heightens awareness to the creativity all people are naturally capable of.
